massage therapy 300x193 Massage TherapyWorking out fatigues muscles which cause them to become hypertonic and shortened (contracted).

Massage therapy offers neurological and mechanical sensory input to facilitate muscle relaxation and lengthening. The manual techniques offered during a massage stimulate special nerve cells with the skin, muscle and joints. These nerve cells act as sensory inputs to reset muscles to a greater state of relaxation.

When the muscles of the body are relaxed metabolic activity decreases which in turn conserves energy through less metabolism and waste production. Furthermore when muscles are more relaxed they exert less pressure on their surrounding space. This leads to an improvement in circulation along with the body being put in a more optimal state of recovery. Massage helps to bring the functioning of the body’s systems to improved balance and health. In short, massage therapy adds sensory input to the nervous system to help the body to recover faster from exercise by helping the body to relax an dbe in a more optimal state to heal itself.
