Dr. Frederick W. McLevich, N.D.
I am a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine practicing in the Sudden Valley area of Bellingham, Washington. My true passion is empowering patients and supporting them through their healing process.
My Journey to Naturopathic Medicine Growing up in Northern Illinois, I spent most of my free time in nature. Whenever I was sick, my family instinctively turned to natural and herbal therapies before seeking out Western medicine providers. After high school, I served in the U.S. Navy for four years on an aircraft carrier based in San Diego. Following my enlistment, I returned to Illinois to study at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC), where I received a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences.
It was at SIUC that I had my first experience with a naturopathic physician who worked as a gross anatomy professor. Because Illinois is an unlicensed state, access to naturopathic doctors was difficult, but I was highly intrigued by the naturopathic philosophy. During my undergraduate work I also completed EMT training and worked in the Emergency Department learning from providers of all different levels and specialties. At SIUC I worked in a research lab studying the anti-cancerous properties of ginseng in vivo. I was also awarded an undergraduate research grant to study the effects of Devil's Club Root on insulinoma (pancreatic cancer). Through these experiences, I was given firsthand proof of the amazing healing power of nature. I later went on to earn my doctorate from Bastyr University in Kenmore, Washington.
Clinical & Hands-On Experience Over the past 25 years, I have worked alongside Western medicine practitioners in emergency rooms and internal medicine clinics, and for the last nine years, I have specifically served as an urgent care provider. This extensive exposure to conventional care has shown me just how critical living a healthy lifestyle and making healthy choices is to our overall well-being.
To deepen my understanding of the body and its movements, I studied massage therapy at the Bellevue Massage School and continued my education by learning Cranial Sacral therapy, Visceral Synthesis, and intra-oral massage. During naturopathic medical school, I worked part-time as a Kinesiology instructor for the Bellevue Massage School and provided massage therapy for motor vehicle accident patients at a chiropractor's office.
Family Life & Adventures In 2023, I married my beautiful wife, Anita, who is originally from Canada. We eloped on Big Island of Hawaii on July 4th so that we could celebrate our marriage and anniversaries with fireworks. Through our marriage, I was incredibly blessed to gain a wonderful daughter. As a family, we love taking vacations to Universal Studios Orlando. When we are enjoying our free time back home in the Pacific Northwest, we take full advantage of the outdoors. We love boating, camping, hiking with our dogs, and enjoying the incredible local seafood. To stay active and push my personal limits, I also love training for and participating in Spartan Races, Tough Mudders, and Go Ruck challenges.
